Sweet Vappu yummies
There are certain delicacies that I must have with the specific celebration. Like, Christmas, I need to have the gingerbread cookies, and Easter I must have a Fazer Mignon egg. For Vappu, it is preferably home made sima (sweet mead) and home-made donuts that my mom makes. There is just something extra special when you have them home made. On the other hand, when there is no time to make all that….there are commercial versions that are “almost” as good.
Mead requires 5-7 days of preparation as it needs to ferment. For mead making, you need muscovado sugar, water, lemons, raisins and yeast. In addition to the ingredients, you need a bucket and 4-5 bottles. So as you can see, it requires some planning and preparation to make your sima for Vappu. I have to admit that over the years, I have become more and more lazy, so I buy the already made mead. Either from the grocery store or the cantine at the office. They make a good home made sima.
This Vappu I went fully commercial. I bought Sima and funnel cakes to celebrate. They were quite nice. I can recommend the Marli kotisima for those who want to get the closest taste of home made sima.
